Football strives to rebound from bowl loss

chemistry between all of the coaches on his
staff.

Problem areas for t[...]include the punting position, where the team
lost All-American punter Scott Villarreal to
graduation; a[...]linebacker. Smith was
the only freshman to start all 10 games at
linebacker last season. Davey is ligh[...]big man, running a4.56 in the 40.

One of the big questions coming into the

frontrunner, but Kris Heddings from Peoria
and John Ganados are also in contention fo[...]xcellent arm,” Kersting said.

Leisure learning: No h[...]ypnosis to
Stop Smoking?

These are a few of the 125 non-credit
courses offered on campus. Not only m[...]dit
classes, but there are also no tests or home-
work involved.

Plus, these classes offer something fo[...]of 88, that number more
than doubled to more than 2,000. “It’s just
mushroomed since then,” You[...]n revenues, the cost is reasonable. Courses
range from $5 to make a plate or mug, to
$120 for the woodworking class.

There are six production classes and
three theory classes, according to Esquer,
with enrollment significantly up from when
the program began in 1986.

“The hardest thing about the program

worth of professional video equipment for

times,” Coggins said, “that we all can’t get
on and work.”

Melva Ayers, also a senior in the pro-
gram, said: “It's acatch-22. The more enroll-
ment we get, without getting mo[...]ac-
quainted with the program when she moved
here from California.

“T had to go back to school anyway[...]through the video pro-
duction at Glendale was a success.” she
said.

McGovern-Hall believes that, as a 46-
year-old woman who has only been in the
field for three years, to be making more
than $35,000 annually is[...]too bad,” she said.

McGovern-Hall credits her success
largely to her medical background,

“You can take whatever experience you
already have and make it work for you in
video,” she added.

Campus bookstore[...]have already sold four in just
one week, although three were sold to fac-
ulty members.”

loan information. Prices range from $900
to $2,100.

Bookstore employees will help in filling
out the order form but may not be able to
answer some technical questions.

Volleyball off to encouraging start

Coming off a third-place finish in last year's National

in the first week of the '92 season.

They have defeated Phoenix College and P[...]four players, including last year’s first-team All-
Arizona Community College Athletic Conference ch[...]at are strong leaders.”

The season opener was all Ricks College.
The Vikings wasted little time, scoring all
of their 23 points in the first half.

Ricks took the opening kickoff and
marched 73 yards on 9 plays ending ina 29-
yard field goal, which gave the Vikings a3-
0 l[...]ds
for their first touchdown, a quarterback
sneak from200 yards of
total offense. The Gauchos offense was[...]ny bright spots in the game, coach
Kersting said, “The only bright spot I can
think of is that we get to[...].”

Nearly 2,000 fans were wondering how
the Gauchos would res[...]e more physical in
practice this week and it paid off, but we still
have a long way to go.”

The men defeated Phoenix College 20-39, and
Scottsdale 15-50; however, their enthusi[...]rt Stewart. Araujo finished fourth with a time of
28:02 and Stewart came in ninth at 28:59.

The men’s team suffered a setback before[...]the
standings. The Gauchos competed with runners from
most of the Arizona colleges, in addition to alumni
from NAU.

Araujo led the men with a 20th place finish at a time
of 26:33 for the five-mile distance.

For the women, Molina was 32nd at 21:36 and
Kress was 50th at 23:23.

the past 20 years.

Earlier this semester, President Dr. Joh[...]per and Walter Glemba with plaques
honoring their 20 years of service to this school.

“The plaque meant a lot to me in terms of having sur-[...]esses during the time he’s been at
the college. “The award represented my personal accom-

“Many things have changed in the past 20 years,

Nothem Arizona University Invitational, led the team
with a score of 26:17, finishing in sixth place.

52, South Mountain 120, Central 18, and GCC 54.

from 5-7:30 p.m. Then it’s time to hit
the books for[...]before getting some more sleep. Fi-
nally, it’s off to work from midnight to
8am.

Montgomery's early childhood

single mother along with three sisters
and two brothers.

“We all took care of each other,” he

Carl Albert Junior-Senior High School.

“The competition was getting better,

body, but at 22 he was also one of the

record to 3-1 as they defeated Arizona Westem on Sept. 26.
They also witnessed a school-record 52-yard field goal by
Harmann.

The Gauchos were downed 27-24 by Phoenix College on
Oct. 24. It was Phoenix’s Homecoming game and their
second win all season.

Trailing by a field goal late in the fou[...]to take the lead
on a 39-yard field goal.

After three plays and two penalties, the Gauchos were at
the Bear’s 42-yard line with three seconds left on the game
clock. Garrison Harmann[...]Gauchos would get one last shotat tying
the game from the 42-yard line.

The Homecoming crowd at Phoenix was s[...]nd the
hold steady as Harmann booted the ball for all he was worth.

Just after the ball left his foot,[...]ouchdown.

Glendale’s problems this season came from the other two
portions of their team, the offense[...]s size and
lack of consistency have prevented him from being a clutch
“go to” guy.

Communication major suffers from amnesia

The College Voice[...]ch-communication major on cam-
pus, is recovering from amnesia after falling down a stair-
case at her h[...]us at the
bottom of her stairs upon arriving home from being out of
town. The accident occurred on Nov.[...]ctors said in cases of amnesia, it usually takes 72 hours
for memory toreturn. But in Michal’s case it could take from
a week to a month.

“It affected her short-term[...]e're playing it week-by-week,” the mother said. “The
brain’s not repairing itself. It’s gonna take time. When you
have to learn things all over again, it’s draining. We took her

was like talking toa complete stranger. Before we hung up,

for a degree?

One answer is simple. Students

student Rose Ann Snell. She said,

Tournament from Nov. 25-27. Teams from
all over the Valley will participate.

from going to D.C., has an idea about the

than if they were to go all the way to D.C.

stat bank in the library from being taken
away (yeah, but who at college really[...]rn-
ment is supposed to represent us, and I think
all three students who were at the last meet-
ing were represented fairly well

With all of these hypocrisies between how we act

because they came from my parents? Does it mean
wishing things had been[...]my job is my next thought. I wonder if we
live to work or work so that we may live? We buy
new cars and homes, b[...]ing I know to sell the best years of our
lives to work with the illusion of eventually gaining
greater f[...]dy bought her for graduation. I think back to the
complete stranger that caused my heart to skip
earlier. Sh[...]itdle girl may never be deep
enough tocomprehend. Success is not comprised
of material things. It’s being[...]hat a world.

Men’s, women’s hoopsters off to rocky start

Men’s team begins

opened its season with a 3-2 record, an
impressive start compared to last year[...]be a great pickup for Glendale.
Brown transferred from Southwest Mis-
souri State and is leading the tea[...]endale, they scored 107
points against the Airmen from Luke.

Luke got off to an early lead, but Glendale
came back to gain[...]Zach Puent exploded in the second half,
scoring 27 points. He finished with 29.

The Gauchos then hosted the Valley of
the Sun Tournament from Nov. 25-27.
